Gemma

Gemma Johnson qualified from The Wales Centre for Podiatric Studies in 2010, where she spent 3 years studying for a BSc Podiatry degree. Since qualification Gemma has been providing a domiciliary service around Oxfordshire. She has some experience working within the NHS and privately, and has experience in all aspects of podiatry. This includes general podiatry problems, biomechanics, nail surgery, cliical therapies and at risk patients.

With a belief that making a patient feel comfortable is the most important outcome, as foot pain can be quite debilitating. Gemma used this belief as the main focus for her BSc dissertation, which investigated the psychological affect of foot pain. She also believes that in order for patients to get the best outcome from podiatry a preventative treatment approach is the most effective way of improving a patients' pain levels and allowing patients to get the most out of their feet.

Gemma is a Podiatrist who treats all aspects of general foot care, with a special interest in at risk patients. At risk patients are mainly those patients who suffer with diabetes. These patients are called 'at risk' due to diabetes having such an effect on the lower limb and feet that in many cases sensation deteriorates rapidly and is eventually absent completely, so many patients can be unaware that there is even any problem with their feet. At risk patients are susceptible to ulcerations and wounds that they don't necessarily notice immediately. But with regular visits to a podiatrist keeping their feet in good condition and monitoring loss of sensation, advice can be given at every stage enabling the patient to have a knowledge of how their feet may be affected allowing them to pick up signs early, thus allowing them to be treated quickly before they become a problem.

Working as a Podiatrist at Witney Podiatry and Biomechanics, Gemma often closely works with the physiotherapists at Witney Physiotherapy Centre. To book an appointment with her please telephone on 01993 201485.
